Golden LucyAnyone who lives to the age of 85 these days deserves more than a pot luck dinner. How about a senior blog! I received a very nice letter from Golden Lucy who describes herself as “a sane senior able to walk, see, hear, drive and appreciate a good joke as well as a lovely dinner at a fine restaurant.” She lists her former profession as accounting, but I would have guessed teacher. Anyone who can jump into the blogging world at 85, and more importantly, give voice to the world as they see it, deserves to be read by all generations.

In the end, the internet is nothing more than a communication tool. With so many seniors cut off from the social interaction that came as a given in their younger years, it’s encouraging that their feelings can now be part of the dialogue. Forget whether your own kids stop by with the grandkids. Quit waiting for the phone to ring. Head on over to Blogger, Typepad, or Wordpress and fire up a blog. Who knows, the more you write, the more you might discover that some of your readers just might turn out to be family members!

I’m an 83 yr old woman who enjoys using the computer. I regularly read several senior blogs for both entertainment and information. However, I am baffled by the lack of senior blogs by folks 70 and over. We’re the age group that has the most time to reflect and share and we need non-commercial information and opinions from people like ourselves.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to plug in (hopefully many of us can still type) information for a blog and push the “publish” button on one of the free blog sites. Is there a reason so few people in my age group aren’t into blogging? Do you have any ideas about how to connect with others that I may not be aware of? What can I personally do to encourage others?

I just started it but I’m learning more every day. Thanks for reading this letter. If you have any advice about uber-senior bloggers I’d really appreciate hearing it.
