True or false? The urge to volunteer is directly correlated to a person’s empathy. The more empathy you possess the more likely you are to volunteer and perform altruistic acts.

Here’s one instance of a 92-year-old woman who survived the Spanish flu of 1918 and decided to donate her blood in an effort to find clues to a vaccine against this dangerous biological disaster looming in the future. Thank you, Dorothy!

A 92-year-old woman who survived the Spanish flu in 1918 has given 10 vials of her blood to medical researchers who are trying to develop more effective vaccines against bird flu.

Dorothy Horsch was in kindergarten when she contracted the illness, which killed 20 million to 40 million people worldwide. “My mother and father and sister and I, all four of us had it and all four of us survived,” she said Friday. “That was a miracle.”
