Personally, I really don’t believe anyone should be driving over the age of 65 unless they’ve been subjected to a hearing test, a reaction time test, and demonstrated on the road their ability to drive within a reasonable margin of error when it comes to things like parallel parking, backing up, and driving on a crowded road.

Public safety trumps what is passed off as some kind of Constitutional right. Forgive me, but your social life does not guarantee you the right to take someone else’s life.

Mr. Morrison, who has lived through 17 American presidents, does not believe that driving is a lifelong right. In interviews, he spoke frankly about what some see as a quiet menace — abetted by permissive laws, embarrassment over failing skills and necessity: many of the elderly are driving when they should not be.

“Every person has to decide for himself when it’s time to give up,” he said. “There are people who will not admit they are not capable. And they’re a menace to themselves and others.”
