If you look up the word codger, you discover it affectionately refers “to an eccentric but amusing old man.” In the case of Dutschke Old Codger Tawny Port, the label on the bottle depicts what purports to be an old codger with a cane walking down a side street, using a hand against the wall for added support. Is the old codger eccentric enough to claim title to the word? The orange wall and slightly bowed left leg give him an odd air. We can’t tell if he’s drunk and on his way home from a neighborhood bar or just out for a stroll. Perhaps if we had a few glasses of Old Codger Tawny Port we would know the answer.
