Before you can invent something, you need to have a problem. Instead of getting annoyed with the problem, the inventor studies why the problem exists and sets out to fix it. This whole mentality of fixing things viewed as problems is more than a rainy day hobby. A select few turn into family fortunes.

The aging Baby Boomer population represents a case study in a set of problems that involve comfort, perhaps, more than necessity, but fear not, the inventors are madly at work to make your life easier. Now if only they could come up with a solution for the Iraq war…

“Boomers are going to represent the first generation that has grown up around technology,” says Russell Bodoff, executive director of the Center for Aging Services Technologies, a national coalition established in 2003. CAST is made up of more than 400 technology companies, aging-services organizations, research universities, and government representatives. “This is also a demanding generation which prides itself on trying to remain as young as possible for as long as possible, so there’s gong to be more of an expectation of technology to meet their needs.”
