Hippos kill more humans in Africa than any other mammal. For one couple in South Africa, though, a hippo has become a newly adopted member of the family with complete house privileges. The couple have named her Jessica the Hippo and she enjoys body massages and is allowed to let herself into the house for some snacking in the kitchen. With Americans spending $41 billion on pets, it’s pretty obvious to us that divorce has created a situation where people now value their relationship to a pet over a human being. That’s our working hypothesis anyway. Exhibit A: Jessica the Hippo.
