on Aug 8th, 2007How Gossip Turned Grandma into an US Weekly Junkie

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are two small time Hollywood actors who crave the spotlight. Since fame these days is worth millions in marketing dollars and endorsement fees, the game requires getting as much attention as possible from the press. The easiest way to do that is pick a fight with someone (think Donald Trump and Rosie O’Donnell). When the fight gets picked up by AP or Reuters, the mission has been accomplished.
But perhaps the real test of fame comes when your grandmother picks up the phone and calls you to say, “Is it true? I just read about you in US Weekly.” Fame. Can’t make money without it, but can’t live much of a life once you have it…right, Britney?
