Nightmares that force you awake in the middle of the night usually involve some kind of jeopardy that threatens your existence. Maybe you’re being chased by wolves or about to ride off a cliff going 100mph or perhaps you imagine being run over by a drunk driver. Whatever the nightmare, it more than likely will involve some form of physical violence.
That’s nothing, though, compared to the nightmare of Alzheimer’s disease. Let’s start with some frightening statistics: “4.5 million people in the United States have Alzheimer’s, 1 in 10 over 65 and nearly half of those over 85. Taking care of them costs $100 billion a year, and the number of patients is expected to reach 11 million to 16 million by 2050.” Scared yet? Now imagine that 1 out of 10 is you.
