on Aug 20th, 2007Older Drivers Slam into Reason After They Neglect Your Safety

There’s an unwritten rule about problems. If you’re even bothering to ask if something is a problem, then you can bet your ass it is a problem. Have all the discussion you want, but at the end of the day, the problem is not going away unless someone brings some reality to the proverbial table.

The problem: At what age should someone’s car keys be taken away? The question is not whether older drivers on the road are a problem; they are. It’s about where to draw the line. Surprisingly, the medical community is rather silent on this issue. Most older people visit their doctors on a yearly basis. You would think they would be the first defense in recognizing who should or shouldn’t be driving. Nada. So who makes the call? Usually the person or business who just had an older driver plow into them. The madness needs to stop. Driving is not a right, it’s a privilege. If you can’t see, have arthritis, suffer from diabetes, or any other crippling ailment, STOP DRIVING. Use your god damn brain and spare us the consequences of your reckless need to prove it’s your choice. It’s not your choice.
