There’s always at least one person in a group who likes to count things. It doesn’t really matter what’s being counted so much as simply paying attention to the precise amount of the subject or activity at hand.

Demographers have noted that there are 78 million Baby Boomers. That’s a pretty big number. Advertisers have ignored this group thinking seniors are just a bunch of old wankers who pretty much stick to their brand names like good little consumers.

Suddenly advertisers have realized that Baby Boomers did not grow during the Depression and as a result are far more influenced by “aspirational” messages designed to extract every last nickel tucked in their 528 funds. Aaah, but how to reach them.

Voila! Social networking. First came MySpace, then came Facebook, now comes a Baby Boomer gabbing with his or her friends about their medical condition and lack of retirement planning. Welcome to the 21st Century, grandma, now stick ‘em up!
