on Sep 23rd, 2007Privatization of Nursing Homes Equals Worse Off Residents But Hey Profits Soared

Privatization, the rebel yell of the Bush administration, is supposed to be the bitter pill that solves all the woes of publicly funded social programs. Just throw that Medicaid cash at private companies and by god they’ll run those nursing far more efficiently than some yahoo public company CEO. Well, the facts are in and surprise, surprise, the residents of those nursing homes faired worse than those who enjoyed the profits from cutting the operating costs of the homes.

How did these ***hole companies do it? By hiding behind the veil of the corporate entity. It’s a shell game that hides who really owns the nursing homes, so those who suffer are left standing in the cemetery saying their last rights to those who died from inadequate care are unable to sue the bastards who would rather stuff their pockets with a few extra dollars than see your grandmother properly turned in her bed so she doesn’t suffer from bed sores.

Privatization is the 21st Century bed sore that is only going to fester and grow into a pandemic of neglect. Instead of investing in long term care insurance, you just might want to invest in a shotgun so you can blow your brains out when it comes to facing the decision of moving into a nursing home. Cockroaches live a better life than some nursing home residents. Shame on the financial community for operating under rules that suggest they would have no problem employing Josef Mengele as the resident staff doctor to look after the ailing residents.

More Profit and Less Nursing at Many Homes
