on Dec 5th, 2007Doped Up Nursing Homes Residents Make For Pharmaceutical Bonanza
It’s bad enough that nursing homes stink like rotting flesh and a fair portion of the residents are simply waiting for the invisible hand of darkness to snatch them from their misery, but now comes word that while you were feeling good about dumping off your loved one there, relieved that it was no longer your job to look after a parent or grandparent, the pharmaceutical companies have been busy milking the Medicaid system by getting the nursing home staff to hand out psychotropic drugs normally reserved for bipolar or worse patients in an effort to subdue their disruptive behavior (Proust would love that sentence!).
Leave it to the drug companies to infest the dying days of a patient in order to churn a profit. Some things never change, do they?
